SA Homeschooler
Is there an American history program [apprx 8th grade] that focuses on history from a conceptual standpoint? From that I mean less focus on names and dates and memorization and more on the story line? Understanding the general timeline and sequence of events is more important to me than specific details. Michelle_NC
I haven't seen any specifically written that way, but you could probably put something together between all the documentaries out there and resources online. Here's a list of episodic histories: http://www.heritage-history.com/?c=library&s=genre#EpisodicHistory_LOC I wonder if there are any good podcasts out there? Nscribe
America The Last Best Hope by William Bennett goes a long way in the direction of conceptualizing the trivia of US history.
SA Homeschooler
I'm thinkng about using America The Story of US with printable study guides http://www.amazon.com/Rebels/dp/B004AH1T1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404170052&sr=8-1&keywords=america+the+story+of+us and Crash Course American History https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8dPuuaLjXtMwmepBjTSG593eG7ObzO7s We are going decidedly light on History since he will have a second go at it in High School. EKS
You might want to look at A History of US by Joy Hakim. The concise edition from K12 is excellent and much better than the regular edition (in fact, I don't recommend the regular edition). It is targeted at middle school.
