SKL
The lady who cut her hair put it in a bag so we could donate it. Those of you who have done this or plan to, how do we go about it?
Aiden
Do a search for "hair donation." You'll get lots of results. Pick the one you want to give it to; there will be instructions on the website. Do look at their requirements--it must be a certain minimum length, cannot be gray (probably not a problem with your daughter's hair ;) ), usually cannot have been bleached, etc. Most places have a form for you to print out and complete, then put it in an envelope and mail it. Locks of Love is the most well known place. Last time I donated, I gave it to Wigs For Kids instead. For future reference, many salons will cut hair for free or a reduced price if you're donating it. ETA: I really hope she put it in a ponytail or braid, as loose hair usually isn't accepted.
SKL
They put it in four small "ponytails."
mom31257
Pantene has a donation program. The ponytail must be 8 inches in length, but it's 10 for Locks of Love.
SoCalLynn
We used Pantene's donation program when my daughter cut her hair. All the information is on their website. They will send a confirmation letter when they receive the hair.
chanda7
I don't know anything about other charities, but Locks for Love is pretty questionable on how many kids they actually help vs. the amount of donations given. Here is a recent story among many: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/14/locks-of-love-controversy_n_3269078.html. Most likely, your kid's hair will just be thrown away. prairiewindmomma
Pantene has a good track plan.
Guest
You might want to read this first: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-547.html Although it is an unpopular opinion here and I do not have the time, energy, or inclination to engage in any further debates. SKL
I'm glad I asked - here and in another forum. I've heard the same thing about Locks of Love, and people prefer either Wigs for Kids or Pantene. So I'll do some web research on those to organizations. SKL
Someone elsewhere suggested Children With Hair Loss. Anyone here heard of them? They will accept hair that is over 8", while wigs for kids requires 12". One of my kid's sections is just slightly less than 12". :(
