It definitely could not be an independent endeavor here.  But I enjoy elementary math and usually get it...  but I do have to look at the solutions oftentimes to guide ds through his thinking about a problem.  But the way they're written means you never look at it and go "12?  Why is it 12?"  It's like a huge paragraph with the step outlined in narrative form and with math.  It's great.  But the final answers are also bolded so if you're sure you and your child get it, then you can easily just check answers without being bogged down as well.

Hi, Do not worry. You will be just fine. On a contrary we are too mathy here. Sometimes I ask my kids to work an alternative solution to the problems just for a challenge. Sometimes they do, other time they come back empty handed. It is a good way for them to exercise heir abilities to think differently.
