Children's Bible other than The Children's Bible in 365 Stories?

Hello:

I'm mostly Charlotte Mason with a classical twist. I want a nice Bible with living stories that my dc will enjoy. So far no luck. I really like my copy of The Children's Bible in 365 Stories, but ds doesn't :glare: And ds loves to be read to, and will listen to almost anything. I don't want Bible to be the one subject he doesn't like. Ds is turning five in about two weeks.

Can you please help us pick a nice children's Bible, beautifully written, eye-catching illustrations? We like living books, of course :)

Thanks!

We have Egermeir's Story Bible. http://www.amazon.com/Bible-Story-Book/dp/B000LC2S9S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219259817&sr=1-2I haven't used it much but it looks good. I've also heard good things about the Children's Story Bible by Catherine Vos. http://www.amazon.com/Childs-Story-Bible-Catherine-Vos/dp/0802850111/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219259672&sr=1-4 Ds and I both really enjoyed The Jesus Storybook Bible. http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Storybook-Bible-Every-Whispers/dp/0310708257. That ones does call dumb it down a little, for example the disciples are "friends" but overall it's good.

I also like the ABC Bible Verses and Big Truths for Little Kids books that Melissa posted.

We love Vos!

Vos doesn't really have great illustrations for that age--however, I used to run off the free colouring sheets from Calvary chapel for the kids to do while I read. They loved it. We'd also do the worksheets. (Using NKJV to help fill in the blanks.)

However, if you are ever planning to use Memoria Press, getting the expensive Golden Children's Bible would be a terrific investment.

It sounds like you've found one that will work for you, but I wanted to mention The Rhyme Bible Storybook (http://www.amazon.com/Rhyme-Bible-Storybook-Linda-Sattgast/dp/031070197X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219268566&sr=1-1). It might be a little young for your five-year-old, but my four-year-old loves to listen to it as an alternative to longer Bible stories, and my two-year-old is equally engrossed, so it might be a nice one for your dd.

HTH! :001_smile:

I also recommend the Child's Story Bible by Vos. I recently went to a homeschooling seminar put on by Carole Joy Seid and she brought some with her to sell - I looked it over during the first break and it looked great, so I went back at the lunch break to buy one and they were already sold out! Over half of the attendees at the seminar raised their hands to say they already owned and loved it. So I came home and ordered one copy for each of my girls and one for my niece who will be born in just a few weeks now.

It was mentioned at the seminar that this book has gone out of print several times and that she is scared that this may be the last printing they ever do. So if you want this book, get it while you can!

The Jesus Storybook Bible is truly amazing! I cannot say enough good things about this Bible. I felt like I got as much out of it as my kids did. :001_smile:

Here is an link to an old blog post I did reviewing the book. It has links to sites where you can read some of the stories for yourself to see what makes this Bible unique!

Here is the Amazon link as well: Jesus Storybook Bible.

I'm a fan of the Children's Illustrated Bible by Selina Hastings. We actually have editions that split Old Testament and New Testament. It is detailed, has DK style glosses at the bottom of the page that elaborate on the story at hand. And it doesn't shy away from stories that show people's failures. So Balaam is here and so are David and Bathsheba.

This is great... thank you for sharing this! We fellowship at a Calvary chapel in our area.

Our top two favorites:

The Jesus Storybook Bible (as already mentioned)

The Big Picture Story Bible by David Helm

This Big Picture Story Bible is so wonderful. I like to alternate between story book Bibles (or the actual Bible) that are more detailed (like Vos) and the Big Picture book. I think the ages of your children would like this one. The Big Picture book shows a wonderful flow of the Bible stories, giving (as the title tells) the big picture of scripture. For example, in the telling of the exodus, it tells how it is similar to Adam and Eve leaving the Garden of Eden.

Both the books I listed have been theology lessons for me!
