Teaching the Classics DVDs. Have any of you ever just watched these *with* your dc?

Have any of you just watched these DVDs with your children? At what age could one do that (assuming that it is workable)? Also, could they be spread out so that you would watch, say 30 minutes a week over 11 or 12 weeks? Or would it be better to have marathon sessions over a couple of days?

TIA!

My dd watched them with me. She was 11 at the time. She likes things like that, though (she also made it through most of the Teaching Company's series on the history of the English language, which dh said bored him to death, LOL.) I didn't really do it on purpose, she is just always around. ;) She learned a lot from them, though.

I would recommend watching them yourself first. Then I would be selective about the parts that I watch with my dc. I don't think kids need to view the entire series as it really is geared towards the person learning how to facilitate/mentor the process.

I started out by watching the dvd's on my own. Then I decided that we would go through the literature pieces in the videos and let Andrew be our teacher. I paused when he asked questions so that my dc would have a chance to answer and we could discuss a bit before hearing what the group on the dvd had to say. I only have my dc watch the parts where he works through the story sequence chart for the given story.

It is working well and my dc are enjoying this. I think it is a nice way to jump into the process and get a feel for how to approach the literature.

Again, this is just my suggestion based on what is working for our family. HTH :)
