Monica_in_Switzerland
I would like to use diagramming/parsing as my main grammar "tool" and build my own grammar curriculum based in part on the progression in the book "Drawing Sentences" by Montaux. I am wondering what ELSE needs to go into a homemade grammar curriculum besides this. I know the main things would be capitalization and punctuation... anything else that falls into the "usage" category? Alternately, can you direct me to a complete grammar S and S? I'll take a look at the KISS TOC... Thanks!
EKS
Verb forms and tenses, subject/verb agreement, misplaced modifiers, parallel structure. I'm sure there are more. All of these would be reinforced with diagramming in one way or another, but diagramming alone wouldn't be sufficient.
Matryoshka
Does diagramming cover verb tenses? I'm thinking no, because they're not structural, but I'm not a diagramming fan, so I'm flat-out guessing...
Monica_in_Switzerland
No, verb tenses aren't covered, so they would be a separate topic. Thanks! Parallel structure would be a natural add-in to diagramming because diagramming illustrates parallel structure. Verb tenses I would have forgotten though. :-) Thanks! Kalmia
Punctuation and usage (they're, there, their). (Though if you understand the purpose of the words in the sentence it can help you with punctuation and usage...
