scootiepie
Just curious. My son can read words that far surpass his ability to spell them. Not worried about it now - he is in 2nd this year so I think that is normal - but I'm wondering around what age kids should be able to spell at the same level they read? boscopup
Haven't hit it yet in 4th grade here, but my 4th grader is an advanced reader and average speller.
Leav97
I'm still waiting and I'm 36. :)
Momof2littles
I taught 3rd grade in PS and spelling was still lower than reading for about 50% of my students. I'm guessing by 4th or 5th grade.

SilverMoon
I'm not so sure I ever reached that point myself. I think I'm a pretty decent speller anyway. :P

RootAnn
I'll echo others -- Do they ever catch up? My oldest finally started to spell better when she was around 11, but that only means 'at grade level' for her. She's a much better reader than speller, as am I. MerryAtHope
45? LOL! I'd have to agree--there are still some words that I can easily ready but when it comes to spelling them I have to stop and think or consult a resource. My kids' spelling continues to improve each year, and that's what I look for.
Arcadia
Never  However it is a good habit to check any work for spelling errors especially if the work is going to count for exam credit.
