momto2Cs
My ds12 is really interested in all things Steampunk, and as an offshoot, Victorian times. Any titles, fiction OR nonfiction, that the Hive can recommend? Thanks!
crazyforlatin
I didn't even know about Steampunk books until recently, so I'm starting to read the Leviathan series, http://www.amazon.com/Leviathan-Scott-Westerfeld/dp/1416971742, just to see if these are books that DD will enjoy, and I actually think she will within a year. Has your son read that series yet?

nmoira
Philip Reeve's Larklight series is written for kids your son's age. Leviathan was my first thought Reeve's Hungry City Quartet/Mortal Engines Quartet NOW Predator Cities quartet is back in print - Mortal Engines is the first (I *love* this series)
nmoira
My eldest highly recommends Kate Milford's The Boneshaker (don't confuse with Boneshaker by Cherie Priest), its sequel The Broken Lands and a novella length e-book only companion piece called the Kairos Mechanism. nmoira
Spring Heeled Jack by Philip Pullman The Copper Treasure by Burgess The Printers Devil and sequel by Paul Bajoria Not Victorian, but he may enjoy the Time Travelers series by Buckley-Archer and the Tom Marlowe series by Priestley. And Leon Garfield's novels: Jack Holborn, John Diamond, Black Jack, The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris, Smith.

Farrar
If you're willing to do graphic novels, Girl Genius. :D I strongly second all the Phillip Reeve stuff. And Westerfield's steampunk series is really fun.

nmoira
Oh, oh, oh. I totally forgot The Hotel Under the Sand by one of my favorite authors, Kage Baker. http://www.amazon.com/Hotel-Under-Sand-Kage-Baker/dp/1892391899
raptor_dad
I really liked "Un Lun Dun" by China Mieville. Its not steampunk but has lots of similar elements in its absurdist alternate reality. Mieville's YA books are good. His adult fiction is too dark and convoluted for my tastes. -chris

Sebastian (a lady)
Sorcer and Cecelia by Wrede is in the gaslight fantasy genre which is similar to steam punk. I'm working on a booklist that includes Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, King Solomon's Mines, Invisible Man, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and The Picture of Dorian Gray. I may also throw in Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstein and Father Brown.

Sebastian (a lady)
When you finish your list, will you share it with me? Pretty please? I'll try to remember. I'm putting it together for my high schoolers, so it might be heavier than you are looking for.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. You're welcome, glad he is enjoying the book. This week the free audiobook at http://www.audiobooksync.com/ is The Peculiars, which is part Steampunk set in the Victorian age. The narrator is excellent! I'm not sure about the content, but DD listened to an excerpt and is already intrigued. Here are reviews on amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/The-Peculiar-ebook/dp/B007HC3SWQ/ref=tmm_kin_title_0
