LNC
Between the level of Alcott and Austen. 2 favorites, Alcott is enjoyable but Austen requires work. Faves when younger: Maud Hart Lovelace Elizabeth George Speare Enright, Melendys etc. I thought of Bess Streeter Aldrich Gene Stratton Porter, at least Limberlost She is kind of sick to death of Ancient and MA historical fiction, but looking at her favorite authors, can you think of age apprpriate, quality and fun summer reads? mumto2
Alan Bradley's Flavia de Luce books would be fun. My Dd loves these! She also really enjoys Agatha Christie with Tommy and Tuppence being her favorite detectives. She recently read P.D. Jame's sequel to P&P "Death Comes to Pemberly" and really enjoyed it. One last idea are Mary Stewart books. Dd just finished "Moonspinners" which is a romantic mystery set in Crete in the 60's. Great pleasure reading. We have the Merlin series by her also but have not started on them yet.

nmoira
Georgette Heyer Jean Webster (esp. Daddy Long-Legs) A Strong and Willing Girl (Edwards) Contemporary: Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett Tamora Pierce Stravaganza series by Hoffman Diana Wynne Jones Nancy Farmer the Mennyms series by Waugh might look juvenile, but it transcends its Borrowers-like genre -- imagine having been an almost 15yo for 40 years Michael Ende (Momo and The Neverending Story)
