Mushroom Nature Study?

Recommended Posts

Is there one you can recomend? I only afterschool, and thus pick my battles to wage (math and reading) but we are going on a mushroom walk/foraging with people who are very good at this, and would like to prepare. We are specifically hunting for morels, but I'd prefer a more general mushroom study I think because that has been a recent theme.

many thanks!!

I like Overton and Hill's Nature Study book more than the big black Handbook everyone loves. Comstock wrote the intro to Overton and Hill's, so it is approved at least! Ha. I found it online and then located an old copy in print. I actually use it occasionally, unlike the megaHandbook. Anyhoo, there are a couple pages about mushrooms on p 31.

How old are your kids? Montessori Services sells a mushroom kit and mushroom cards: http://www.montessoriservices.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=mushroom

I'd just have my kids make their own version of the cards.

If they're older, maybe a microscope study? http://www.mushroomexpert.com/microscope.html
