Blessed with seven Posted April 16, 2013 Share Posted April 16, 2013 My daughter absolutely does not like Phonetic Zoo, I want a program that will cover the basics of spelling, without having to go through 8 workbooks, but we need something fairly independent. I used Spelling Workout before R&S, and while I was happy with it, I ended up going with R&S because it is significantly cheaper. Grades 6-8 are textbooks, but aside from titling the page they don't require anymore writing than the workbooks do. Sweet soo...how would I know where to start in that series, Rod and Staff? An average fifth grader should start with the 5 book. Don't go by the word lists. The needed skill for the exercises is more important for placement.
