Blessed with seven
My daughter absolutely does not like Phonetic Zoo, I want a program that will cover the basics of spelling, without having to go through 8 workbooks, but we need something fairly independent. Ideas?
SilverMoon
Rod and Staff's Spelling by Sound and Structure 5. Painless, effective, thorough, and gets the job done. Bonus points for independent and inexpensive.
Ellie
Another vote for Spelling by Sound and Structure.
Shellers
I agree with the other replies. Rod and Staff Spelling by Sound and Structure is painless.
TarynB
We liked Spelling Workout.
mazakaal
I agree with Rod and Staff. I used Spelling Workout before R&S, and while I was happy with it, I ended up going with R&S because it is significantly cheaper. But R&S is Christian, so if you would find that offensive, then I say go for SW.
KathyBC
Is R&S a workbook or a hardcover text?
Blessed with seven
Sweet soo...how would I know where to start in that series, Rod and Staff?
SilverMoon
Is R&S a workbook or a hardcover text? Grades 2-5 are workbooks. Grades 6-8 are textbooks, but aside from titling the page they don't require anymore writing than the workbooks do. Sweet soo...how would I know where to start in that series, Rod and Staff? An average fifth grader should start with the 5 book. Don't go by the word lists. The needed skill for the exercises is more important for placement.
