Catwoman
We used Pre-Algebra last year and are using Algebra 1 this year, and we only looked at the books once, when ds wanted to review something. I would be interested in knowing about Alg 2 and Geometry, too! :)
shanvan
It really depends on your approach. I actually teach some of the lessons, so I like to have the book. With the book I can sit on the couch and go over concepts with Ds without having to deal with a computer or look at a screen. I'm not a huge fan of sending kids off to work on their own and trusting just the teaching on the discs. I want to ask Ds questions, check his understanding, review as needed etc. and I don't want to use the computer to do it. We are using Geometry. The book is also handy for having him copy theorems and review when I don't necessarily have a computer available for him to use. Since he has the book, he doesn't have to wait. The only other year we used TT was in 6th grade and I am unsure of whether we will continue with it. My plan is to go back to Lial for algebra 2. Renaissance Mom
I believe that the actual problems only appear in the text for geometry ... Or any other text without interactive grading. Ergo, the text is necessary.

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
My ds is just finishing TT Algebra 2 and has not opened the book once.
Jilly
For Geometry I feel the book is necessary. My son refers to the theorems in it quite often.
