sbgrace
Is there anything I can do if I know my son has already been exposed to a child with pertussis? He's been vaccinated but it's been several years. I'm particularly concerned as his twin is struggling with pretty significant asthma and related issues already. EKS
I think you can do prophylatic antibiotics. At least that's what they did at a school around here for all the unvaccinated kids (there were a lot of them) when there was an outbreak of pertussis. I'd ask your child's doctor about it. Beth S
I believe you can go ahead and get a booster vaccine now, just to make sure. If you catch the Whooping Cough early, a round of antibiotics will relieve the child of some of the worst symptoms. We are all vaxed, but WC is bouncing around the un-vaxed here in our area. The worst WC is from kids who aren't on antibioitics, IMO. The real danger is to newborns and seniors. The pediatrician visit, official pertussis test, and the anti-biotics can add up to quite a bit of $$. You may be spared!

As I understand it, many vaxed kids are getting it, anyway, so please be cautious with your kids, just in case!
