Juniper
Ugh! Ugh! UGH!!!! I am trying to decide how to turn around this ship. Should I just teach the math concepts using sources I already have? Do I throw in the towel? :glare: Not a happy camper right now.
Wildiris
K12 color math,i.e., purple(3rd grade), red(4th grade) etc. There are parts of K12 math I like, but I don't like it enough to use as my only source for math. When we received STAR test results from last spring, it was clear that K12 math alone was not enough for my DD. Add other sources. My strategy: Singapore Math-This is where DD learns math and is genuinely enthusiastic about learning math. K12 Red Math for learning concepts from a different point of view. Sometimes it's useful. Horizons Math-This covers things that neither of the the above does, such as Roman numerals. I also use this for spiral review and simple math puzzles. DD does this independently. She likes the color and variety. I like that it keeps her basic math skills sharp.
SkateLeft
The new K12 color math is why I pulled my youngest out of MNVA after last year. I don't like it, and I don't mess around with math. I would just teach the concepts using materials you have now. If you're in a virtual academy, you can teach the objectives your own way and mark the lessons complete. RootAnn
Don't throw in the towel! :grouphug: There are so many other options out there! Find something that works.
mhaddon
I hate it too. I am unhappy with the way they are teaching addition. Ugh, I'm pulling out MUS and then continuing on. For K and first right now. I did like all the other K stuff up until addition.
momtoamiracle
I like the worksheets, but the rest of it I didn't care for. Math took FOREVER! we're much more efficient using Math Mammoth and Miquon. I use the worksheets just to change up the look of things. Durriyyah
Yuck, I hated the math program they came up with. Our first year with K12 they had a regular math book, but then the next year they had the color math and it factored into us leaving, though it was a minor factor. mhaddon
I dislike the glossy print on everything. It smears with markers, crayons smudge and ball up with wax, pencils work ok. I will say I do enjoy the LA and History and the most.

Juniper
Thank you! I just went ahead an pulled out some of my other resources. We will get this done! I worked with DD11's introduction to Algebra and Geometry and liked it. I just wish the color math could have been made similar, or kept similar. Ugh! :tongue_smilie:
mommyagain
I hate it with a white hot passion!!!!!!!! I'm considering dropping k12 at the end of the first semester. Right now I'm using anything else I can find to teach the concepts.
Tidbits of Learning
We just work around it and do the assessments. I like everything else for K12. The older maths are really good. Color math is horrid. So...our plan is to just do our own math and assess out of K12.
