plain jane
I know there are good apps available for both earth science and astronomy but I'm having a hard time wading through all the selection (which isn't all free). I am not opposed to paying for good apps so please recommend any and all that you feel have enhanced your earth science and astronomy studies. I am looking for an average 3rd grader and advanced 6th grader. The apps can be for either age, but I'm more looking for the 6th grader, if available. Thanks for any help you can offer. Elfknitter.#
NASA has a few free apps. We have Star Walk, Sky Safari and Sky View. Of the three, we like Sky View the best. We also have Sky Week so we can keep up to date on happenings (though you can get some of the same info via email newsletter.)
SnMomof7
Solar Walk is free right now (or it was earlier today) - run run run! :) I've reviewed these science apps in detail - http://appsforhomeschooling.com/category/2bysubject/science/ Some definitely cover earth science. ....
My kids are loving "Night Sky" right now. You point your phone at the sky and it shows you the names/locations of each star and the surrounding constellation. We've also been able to identify Mars and Venus with that app.
SnMomof7
Thanks for posting this, just downloaded Solar Walk and their Saturn one, they are great! And free! The Saturn one is totally new, I haven't had a peek at it yet :). Solar Walk can be $2.99 or $0.99 but it's still worth that price - seems to be free as a promo right now though! :)
Allearia
My kids enjoyed Puzzling Plates, it is on plate tectonics, and has some games about different types of plate movement and a puzzle with all the different plates. They went pretty quickly through all the games but I think it was free and they learned a lot, there are not too many apps about plate tectonics.
