PeacefulChaos
Astro is 6.5. He's had all of his vaccinations on schedule his whole life. He scratched his back on a nail a couple of days ago, and today he tore the skin in his foot just a little by jumping up and down on a screw (in the deck). I'm not concerned, but I'm not sure if I should call the doctor to see when his last tetanus shot was? Or does it last for like 10 years or something? TIA!! :bigear:
klmama
The last tetanus shot would have been around age 5, right? He should be fine. Just clean out the wound well and keep it covered during the day so it can heal without getting dirty. If you are still concerned, call your doctor's office and ask when he had his last vaccination. sweetbasil
FWIW, nails or rusty nails aren't more likely to have tetanus than anywhere else. Tetanus spores are everywhere, even in your house. If it wasn't a deep, non-bleeding puncture wound, I wouldn't even think about it. The chances of a child with normal circulation getting tetanus are about 0.
regentrude
after the basic immunization is complete (around age 4 or 5), a booster is needed after 10 years. He should be fine.
PeacefulChaos
Thanks! I didn't think it would be an issue, but I didn't want to be negligent. :)
