5LittleMonkeys
This is not AP biology. 9th grade. I'm still struggling to find an equilibrium here. It either feels too time consuming or like it isn't worth it. If you could share your average times per week and what types of labs are accomplished in that time (virtual, hands on, ongoing, quick labs, etc.). Thanks. coffeegal
I'm planning an hour once a week for labs, Monday while the tots nap. This quarter we're studying the animal kingdom so the boys will be doing microscope work and dissections. They'll likely spend an additional 15 minutes or so completing their lab reports. TechWife
One hour every other week, with additional time for the write up. Keep in mind that ps kids don't do nearly as many labs as we think they do.
Mom22ns
We usually had at least one hour of lab each week. There were some labs that took longer than an hour (dissections for example) and a few weeks we didn't do a full lab (environmental science chapter leaps to mind). Lab write ups were in addition to time spent in lab, not completed during that hour.
StephanieZ
We're doing 2 hours each week. I am a big believer in the value of hands on labs.
SailorMom
We did about 3 hours a week. Sometimes there would be a week with no labs, but I'd say about 80% of the time 3 hour lab weeks would be about right. Oh - this was 8th grade using Miller Levine. FloridaLisa
We used Apologia biology for non-AP and had a 2-hour lab class every other week. Additionally, my dc would spend approximately an hour a week on an at-home lab or project. Lisa
jessicalb
We're doing a group lab of 2-4 hours every other week, and an at home lab of about an hour on the off weeks, plus time outside that to complete questions and lab write-ups, for a 36 week school year. 5LittleMonkeys
Okay, thanks everyone. It sounds like my plan isn't far off from what many of you are doing. I think doing a 2-3 hour lab every other week or so is going to work better for us. I'll pull in some virtual labs and some Kahn lectures for the other weeks.
