madteaparty
How many pages per day do you average? My goal is to do a series per semester (so we're startung the 3Bs this month since school starts and I would like to finish it by December)
Roadrunner
That depends. My kids can fly through 10 pages in multiplication chapters, but on days when we are working on some dense pages in IP books, we might only complete a page. I don't pay attention to pages. Instead we have a dedicated time block for math.
madteaparty
Thanks, roadrunner. How long is your math time block? i am trying to balance doing math most days in addition to school work as well as piano/tennis/etc. Many thanks! Roadrunner
For SM, give or take around 45 minutes for my second grader and 30 minutes for my first grader. We will sit through an hour sometimes if it's Beast math, which we alternate with SM. We also have 45 minutes of piano practice. I know, it's a lot. Sneezyone
We average 4 pages, 3 days a week. This usually takes DD 30 to 45 minutes and we typically get through the A book by Christmas and the B book by the end of the school year. We're not doing the IP book but do throw in BA text and workbook for fun and challenge.
rokaie
This will be my first year of after-schooling. We used Singapore primary math for the vacancies and now my ds is starting second grade. He is in SM 2B and we have a time block of 30 minutes 3 days a week, plus 30 minutes of piano practice everyday.
madteaparty
Thanks, everyone. Averaging 30 min 3-4 times a week is what I was envisioning as well. It is a delicate balance to do regular schoolwork, piano practice, math, and sports (which thankfully this semester are on the weekends) AND supply a nice chunk of free form playtime which my son really craves. It looks like most of you also use Beast Academy. I had a look at the materials and felt a little overwhelmed. How does it compare to Singapore Math, in your view? snazzy
We only do one worksheet page (back and front) per day - every day including weekends. My 2nd graders are on 3A and my 4th grader is on 6A - I try to have them finish a years worth in a school year but we end up ahead because of summer. One of my 2nd graders needs more review so I also slow him down a bit with other supplements. Edited September 6, 2012 by snazzy

DD calls BA "fun math" we're plodding it through it mostly b/c DD is doing so many other things. We usually do one workbook page (front/back) on Saturday or Sunday but sometimes DD asks to do that in lieu of her regular 4 pgs of SM.
