Skinnybones Boxcar Children Little House on the Prairie series The Lost Children if they are religious, we love the Dangerous Journey (a child friendly version of Pilgrim's Progress) The Indian in the Cupboard ETA: Mrs. Piggle Wiggle is great, like a PP mentioned! I was told by a NA student a few years ago that the book was offensive to her culture. Your mileage may vary, but she never impressed me as being oversensitive. This summer, we've read Charlotte's Web, Little House in the Big Woods, and we're currently reading Little House on the Prairie (with a few stops to discuss racism.)
