BMW
I bought a Madeira and a Port for some Julia Child's recipes... and now that I've used them in my recipe, I am unsure how to store them... Do I store the bottles that have been opened in a cupboard or in the fridge?? Thanks!
LaxMom
I keep port on hand for French onion soup. I keep it on my buffet, above the schoolwork bins, with the rest of the booze. I think Madeira can be stored the same way.
besroma
I keep mine in a dry place away from heat. I have read that Madeira should be stored upright to keep the wine from touching the cork. I love Julia Child's recipes!
Dolphin
cupboard, upright. Port is also nice on it's own in the evening. Think of Jane Austen and such, the men have port and cigars after dinner before join the ladies. Just saying....
LucyStoner
My cooking sherry, madeira and marsala are all with the various bottles of cooking oils, vinegars and shelf stable sauces in a cupboard. As for port, it doesn't last. We drink it fairly soon after buying it for a recipe. What little we do store gets stored with the drinking wines in the pantry. MHowell
Both can be left on the counter. Port will still be drinkable in 2 months, though the other will not be drinkable more than a few days once opened. You can still cook with it though... I've cooked with wine left out up to about a month.
BMW
The port is SOOOO sweet, I could not enjoy drinking it as is... anyone have a recipe for a nice drink that uses the port that tones down the sweetness?
