lisabees
I want to work on "confusing words" this summer - can and may, further and farther, fewer and less than, it's and its, lay and lie, their, there and they're etc. Is there a workbook or resource that can help me do this with my rising 4th grader? *Michelle*
I like this site: http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/ Can vs May Further vs Farther Less vs Fewer Apostrophe Catastrophe Lay vs Lie
lisabees
Thank you Michelle! I am really hoping to find something that I don't have to piece together, but if I do, that is a great site. I've never seen it before. ;)
Mélie
I don't know about a workbook, but I like Common Errors in English Usage and this site.
lisabees
Oh Melie, I love that site! I've never seen it before. Thanks for sharing. I will be having lots of fun with it. ;) I wonder if there are any printable worksheets out there?

Spetzi
Someone ought to show the difference to Jeannie Fulbright, author of Apologia Elementary Science. She seems to use further and farther at random which I find pretty annoying! I made it through her astronomy book by correcting as I read. Get an editor. nansk
How about the Homophone Resource Book?
ElizabethB
How about the Homophone Resource Book? :iagree: Also, my phonics lesson 31 covers their, they're, there; it's, its; your, you're; two, too, to (The most commonly confused words, all my remedial students get them confused, as well as some who read well, but I haven't yet had a remedial student who knew all of them well.) The end of the 1908 Webster Speller has a list, but some of them are more suited for an older student, I would pare down the list for a 4th grader. They start on page 118: http://www.donpotter.net/pdf/websterspellingbookmethod.pdf
lisabees
Ooooh - I found it!!! Check it out. Aunt Ruth to the rescue! Elizabeth and nansk - thank you for those links. Webster has always helped me out through the years - thanks to Don and Elizabeth. I do have Susan Anthony's spelling and dictation books. I'll have to get them down from the bookshelf. :)
