mom24cuties
This is going to be my first full year homeschooling and my first year with a K'er and I have decided not to buy a math curriculum for him this year. We will be doing MEP math but I want to make math learning fun for him and was thinking I would do a lot of games. We will also be doing calander time, and he will have a calander time binder we will work on daily. Also besides games what are some good manipulatives? Five More Minutes
Have you looked at Rosie's videos at Education Unboxed? She has lots of ideas for games using Cuisenaire rods that are good for K. I love c-rods as a manipulative for these early years -- they're fun and versatile.
blondeviolin
I'd pick up some cuisenaire rods and maybe an AL abacus.

3peasinapod
There are good suggestions in a book called Family Math. If you look on Amazon, there are different levels, make sure you get the one for younger children.
mom24cuties
Thank you for all your input. I will be looking into these.
wearejenandkev
There is another book called "Games for Math" by Peggy Kaye that is really good. You might see if your library has it. Mine does! Jennifer
JenniferLynn
Variations of RS's Go to the Dump (itself a variation of Go Fish) have been great here. We make up our own too (which probably exist in some program) that involve comparing, adding & subtracting. We have many variations of War too. Food4Thought
Along with Cuisinaire rods, dice, dominoes, and lego, you should get a Math Balance. I bought one for my K girl last year, and it's one of the best math manipulatives we have, imho. (I don't know why the page says Grades 3-6. I'd hope a 3rd grader would be beyond that stage by then). Have fun playing!
ondreeuh
Carson-Dellosa Basic Math G.A.M.E.S. are great! http://www.carsondellosa.com/cd2/Products/CarsonDellosa/PID-104188.aspx?CM_VC=10001 They are printed in full color on nice paper - tear out, laminate, and cut. For one kid you could skip the lamination. We play with the abacus, forming groups to 10, recognizing at-a-glance groups up to 10, counting by ordinal numbers (first, second, third), counting backwards from 10 to 1 (ending with a BLAST OFF! and a jump off the sofa LOL), counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s splitting a group into half, etc. Saxon Math K is activity-based, and so is Right Start A. I have gleaned activities from both of those, like printing the numbers 0-20 and working with my son to put them in order, playing with money, and others.
