Here are some ideas at a similar level, maybe kicking it up a notch:

 

Bunnicula series

Poppy series

Ramona and others by Cleary (Ralph and Henry)

Anything Roald Dahl - not a series, of course, but if you are a Dahl lover, you will be hooked for a while.

They've read all of these, the Magic Tree House and Magic School Bus.

 

But I'm excited to order Guardians of Ga'hoole and Geronimo Stilton.

My 9 yo DS's favorite book is Justin Case by Rachel Vail. She just came out with a sequel which he is thoroughly enjoying as well. He is a very reluctant fiction reader, BTW.

He also likes the How to Train Your Dragon series.
