fourcatmom
I am looking for a somewhat independent grammar program for 5th and 6th. I will be using IEW for writing but I really want some kind of grammar program as well. I have tried WWW but wasn't crazy about it, I felt it was almost too easy for them to just fill in the blanks and be done and I am not sure they learned a lot. I have looked into GWG but not sold on it yet since WWW wasn't really what we wanted. We also did Shurley English which I felt that they did retain and understand but I felt it was too teacher intensive. Are there any other semi-independent grammar programs/books out there that might be a good fit? Thanks :001_smile: Edited May 22, 2012 by fourcatmom
justLisa
My current plan is to do Easy Grammar next year with DS.
Kelly1730
I was not thrilled with WWW either but am sticking with GWG for the third straight year. I believe it can be semi-independent, depending on the child.
hsmom2011
We have recently made the switch to Easy Grammar (5th grade) and dd is soooo much happier. She does it independently. :)
Jim
Hake appears written to the student, though we plan on covering the short lessons with ds before setting him free to complete the exercises. We're starting it in the fall.
Sharilynn29
We like R&S for grammar. I know there are writing lessons as well, but those lessons are clearly marked if you wanted just the grammar focus. You really can't beat the price either.
EKS
Hake (Saxon) Grammar can be done independently. I go over the lesson with my son (it usually takes 5 minutes) and then he does the review set independently.

jenL
Rod & Staff has been a hit at our house. Ds does some of it orally with me, but if I'm having a busy day, I can easily send him off to do it alone.
