gevs4him
DS is 9 and does not have any reading issues and comprehends what he reads, but I was wondering if I should continue to use The Critical Thinking Co.'s Reading Detective or what do you use? Thank you
Hope in God
We don't use anything because I think that if a child understands what they are reading doing reading comprehension excercises really take the joy out of it. If you are curious about what level his comprehension is at you can get a trial subscription to reading eggspress and have him do that for a bit and the program comes up with a reading comprehension age for the child (I found it reassuring). MamaHappy
I don't with my older ds because he comprehends what he's reading just fine. I just don't see the need for it right now. But I might use something for my younger ds.... he struggles a bit more in this area. I'm thinking something light like Spectrum Reading. edeemarie
We don't do anything formally, but my kids love the Book Adventures website where they can earn prizes for reading books. They have to answer questions about the story to earn points- so that checks to make sure they actually read the book:)

Thank you - I do believe he comprehends just fine because he answers most questions correctly after any reading assignment and can narrate fairly well. This next year I was really wanting to focus on his writing :D

iamrachelle
We love CLE Reading here... it's so much more than reading comprehension.
Mrs Twain
I do a few formal reading comprehension type of workbooks per year because I appeciate the skills that these build. I use: --Evan Moor's Skill Sharpeners Reading (this includes some phonics activities, too) --Blackbird & Company's literature guides (one or two per year which include various things besides reading comprehension)
Hunter
I used Spalding's McCall-Crabb with an ESL student, but have been struggling to get organized to use it with different LD student right now. Everything else I look at pales in comparison. I don't know if I should keep looking, or try harder to get my act together to use these. http://spalding.org/store/mccall.php
gevs4him
Thank you - we do use LLATL orange and will move onto purple next year, but ... I just am having a hard time giving up extra reading comprehension :D
blessedmom3
We use and love CLE reading and Comprehension Plus by MCP ( during the summer) in addition to our literature based program. These are much more than comprehension as another pp said. For gr 3&up I also use reading detective by critical thinking .
NatashaBrady
This is a very old thread but can anyone tell me does CLE reading comprehension plus have 1 exercise a week?
UnlikelyHomeschoolingMama
I don't know what comprehension plus is. But we use CLE Reading here in 2nd grade (and will use for 3rd). It is so much more than reading comprehension. I would look at samples online. We do one lesson per day, which roughly translates into reading 2 stories per week. HTH!
