Anyone have experience with replacing a laptop AC adapter/power cord?

Recommended Posts

Our laptop cord has pooped out. Our computer guy recommended calling Dell and getting the Dell replacement. Best estimate puts those at around $80-100.00. Dh found some "generic"/reworked models for something like $30 online. Does anyone have good or bad experience with buying something other than the name brand? We'd prefer to save the money right now if it didn't cost us more in the long run.

and although I love DELL computers (have 5 of 'em)' date=' I bought my power cord for my laptop from another source for MUCH less...($30) and I bought a new battery too ($80). You can search on the part number at the website.

Both work great.

I thought my battery was dead, so I bought a new (non-Dell) one, then when the new battery didn't charge, I realized it was my cord. I have found in my research that Dell's batterys and adapters are notoriusly bad. For that reason, I am leaning heavily towards a non-Dell replacment cord. (My new battery has been fine, other than the fact that it won't charge)
