elise1mds
Wow. I remember in May when the last combatant died, how sad I felt. This is just the same. May we never forget...
pqr
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. -John McCrae 1915
kalanamak
Wow. I remember in May when the last combatant died, how sad I felt. This is just the same. May we never forget... I had one as a patient in the 90s. He was rather old and constantly repeated the story of being gassed and heading home in a troop ship of gassed soldiers. He would always end his story, "That's why I need oxygen! I have to breathe oxygen!", to which is grey-haired grandson would say, "Just like the rest of us, Granpa, just like the rest of us." Man, he was a cutie-tootie. I also knew an ancient German Jew who deserted rather than serve. He escaped by hiding in the bottom of a freighter to Sweden, and from there got aid from someone there. He said he was very cold and he was afraid he'd freeze to death, but he was sure he'd be sent to the Eastern Front, where he had a terror of freezing to death. He'd read about what happened to European armies heading towards Russia ... I miss the stories of the oldies, the ladies who loved my strawberry blonde hair because that color was the cat's meow when they were teens ...
