rgrin
My mom used to make snow cream when we were little and lived up north. But, we've lived in the south since '93, and I have NO IDEA how to make it. My family just moved up to Washington state, and it is really coming down today... enough to introduce my boys to snow cream! But, I don't have a recipe AND I'm lactose intolerant. I do have plenty of almond milk on hand. Anyone have a recipe that uses almond milk?
learningmama
We made some a few years ago. Don't quite remember what we did, but I think it was fresh snow, some milk, sugar and vanilla. I would think the almond milk would work. Just add some stuff together and adjust ingredients to make it taste good! Don't think you could go too wrong. SweetMissMagnolia
traditionally in the SOUTH (at least my part of MS LOL) they make it with sweetned condensed milk.....oh man it's good--It would probably work but not be as thick.....sounds good to me anyway
MariannNOVA
We made it two years ago when we were belted with one huge snowstorm after another: snow sweetened condensed milk vanilla (?) maybe -- don't remember-- if so, it was a small amount. I truly just remember the snow and SCM.
Little Nyssa
This is a wonderful idea! We will do this tomorrow--- our FOURTH snowbound day!!!
rgrin
I must say, it went well. I've discovered that almond milk snow cream fills that ice-cream void that has grown since I gave up dairy a year ago... Anyway, I was finally able to get hold of my mom, who said she used a massive amount of snow (it compresses down as it melts), a teaspoon of vanilla, milk to a slushy consistency (added 1/2 cup at a time), and sugar to taste (added 1/4 cup at a time). It was DEEE-LISH! Hope that helps the next family that wants a treat while snowed in! :D
