Aubrey
For an 11yo boy. 1st set. LOVES building, physics, math. I like the look of the green alt energy kit. Other than that one, though, my eyes glaze over when I look at them. ETA: I'm thinking $35 or less. Chris in VA
We have a big one dd got last Christmas. Unfortunately, dd isn't that into it--I think dh misses his boys...:D I don't know which set we have, but it's BIG. The "green" one sounds nice. Jilly
I think the SC-30 is a good first kit. It includes enough pieces to make it interesting, especially for an older child, yet it is not too expensive.
JudoMom
I would get the biggest kit you can afford. They sell upgrade kits, so if he loves it, next year you could add on.
Aubrey
I would get the biggest kit you can afford. They sell upgrade kits, so if he loves it, next year you could add on. But I can't tell how big they are. Some have a cache of letters/numbers, others have names--like BUILD THIS: and an actual something. FM radio, car or something. Etc. Staceyshoe
I would go with the largest SC-# kit you can afford. They have SC-100 and SC-300 and higher. Those are the kits that allow you to buy an upgrade, and I have a feeling that the child you described will LOVE snap circuits and spend hours doing them!:) When we were shopping, Ebay had the best prices on them. When I started this thread, the green kit was $35 & the one you linked above was...between $40 & $50, I can't remember now. Now the green kit is $45 & this one is just under $40. I think whatever I do, I need to click "order" as soon as I find a price I like, but oh my goodness, this is starting to feel like a crazy game! Trilliums
My boys love the one that has the fan blade/helicopter wheel. Not sure which one it is, but it is by far their favorite part. You can make it fling off into the air, so be forewarned. Reverse the wiring and it is just a fan. Great fun. :)
