LatinTea
I just put a turkey in the oven. I haven't done this in many years and forgot to pat the turkey dry before adding all the seasonings. I did rinse it with cold water over and over again, but just forgot to dry the skin with paper towel. Will it be okay or should I did the thing back out and redo everything? I just don't want to make my family sick with bacteria still in there because I didn't pat the dumb thing dry. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :001_smile:
simka2
As long as it is cooked through you will be fine. True confessions: I do not rinse mine. I drown it in alcohol and cook it through. Yum!
LatinTea
Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I'm feeling better about it now; my aunt also told me 'don't worry about it'! :) Happy Thanksgiving!
Laurie4b
I can't imagine that the moisture would cause a problem; after all, people baste their turkeys all the time. As long as you cook until the recommended internal temp, all should be fine!
LatinTea
Thanks to you guys too! Looks like we were all posting at the same time. So far, so good, the turkey is smelling great, with another hour to go. Yeah for me!
Wendi
I never pat mine dry. I rinse it in the sink, remove the giblets and neck, then put it in the oven bag. Wendi

wy_kid_wrangler04
I also never pat it dry. That would not remove bacteria. Cooking it thoroughly will though. You will be fine, no worries :001_smile:
LaxMom
You pat it dry so the butter or oil will coat it. If you're not buttering or oiling, there's no need to pat it dry. It probably is better to get the spices to stick, even.
amey311
that "rinse" isn't going to wash any bacteria off it.
