High School Transcript Question

Recommended Posts

With my son's transcript, we did not have a category "electives" because, to me, electives sounds optional. I had Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Foreign Language, Business, Fine Arts, PE. Basically, everything had a category. I would put it under Social Studies, which can include History. (I put our Religious Studies under Social Studies.) I don't necessarily think it matters too much, but putting it into a required category may give it more importance.

Why not just call it what it is? "Principles of Macroeconomics."

On our transcripts, I listed things like World History, U.S. History, U.S. Government, rather than a blanket "history."

I have classes under catagories such as English, Math, History, Science, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Electives.......

Basically, an elective is a course which isn't required for graduation. If you are following your state's guidelines for graduation and that course isn't part of the requirement, it would then be considered an elective. If you have your own graduation requirements which include that course, I would list it as such, in the appropriate category.

Academic electives are highly regarded by colleges. To them, it means the child went an "extra mile" and completed an academic course as an elective. An elective such as Driver's Education does not impress a college, but if one of the elective requirements was fulfilled by Principles of Macroeconomics, it would impress them.
