Clothesline question, part 2

Recommended Posts

How do I keep my clothes from getting so stiff? Most people say to throw them in the dryer for 5 minutes after you take them off the line, but I no longer HAVE a dryer, so obviously this won't work for me. Any other suggestions?

American (Whirlpool, Maytag, etc) top-loading washers don't spin out nearly as much water as the European front-loaders (Bosch, Asko, etc). So it depends on your washer. I usually run a second spin cycle (Asko) to get rid of even more water.

The only thing that produces "soft" clothes on the line for me is a good breeze.

We have a dryer, but it's rarely used - I usually can't justify the cost of the electricity  I've found adding 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse helps with stiffness. Also, as previously mentioned, spinning out as much water as possible. The heavy-duty cycle on my machine makes quite a difference because it gets the clothes far less water-logged at the end.

I've tried vinegar, and the "snap" before they go on the line. I still get stiff clothes.

I have a top loader, so I'm going to to try the extra spin cycle today and see how that works.
