sixpence1978
Who would be the best person to contact regarding some bad canker sores, the dentist or the doctor? My DS gets them very frequently and nothing we have tried lately has helped. He has 4 right now that are causing him quite a bit of pain. Firestar Academy
my daughter got the incessently. the dentist told us it was from lack of sleep. the doctir said it was from eating and brushing/rinsing not well enough before bed. so we have been better about the brushing.rinsing before bed and it has gotten better. robin in NJ
sixpence1978
I'll have to try the green tea. I haven't heard of that one. We've bought toothpaste without SLS and he can't drink orange juice or he gets them. He had malformed enamel on his baby teeth, so we still help him brush at night. He flosses, brushes for 2 minutes alone, 1 minute with mom or dad, and does a flouride rinse every night. He sleeps between 10-11 hours a night. He does have a lot of allergies and asthma though. The past 6 months though, instead of getting one once a month, he seems to have at least 2 every other week.

Either the doc or the dentist can prescribe a medication that, when applied to the sore, forms a "skin" over the wound, thus relieving a lot of the pain. k2bdeutmeyer
I get them terrible. I went through an awful phase where I would get 5-6 of them at once - the size of pencil erasers or larger! Somebody once told me about the enzyme L-Lysine. I started taking the pills over the counter and have done really well since!! Might be worth a try! missiemick
I get them when I've eaten too much sugar (even in the form of fruit.) So, if you remove sugar from your diet it will prevent them.

He can check if there are any cavities releasing bacteria causing the canker sores. I'd also suggest garggling a couple times a day with listerine (tastes terrible, but it really does reduce the bacteria in the mouth)
lauranc
I'd ask the doctor. My older son and I sometimes get them. I had a lot of trouble with them as a child. I don't get them as much anymore... and mine (and my son's) are due to stress. The doctor gave my son a prescription at one point that helped a lot. wish I could remember the name of it, but I do remember it was a paste of some sort.
