Night Elf
Dd13 is ready to bake a chocolate cake right now. Yes, it's 10:30pm. We're all craving chocolate cake! It calls for 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. We only have rum and almond extracts. :tongue_smilie: The recipe uses cocoa, sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Will the cake be yuck without it? Should we try the rum or almond extract? Aww... we really wanted that cake tonight!
Sandragood1
I Vote almond. Mmmmmm. I miss almond. The kids are allergic. Also, you can do coffee.

ProudGrandma
I second the almond...or you can just leave it out....it won't really be noticable.
Parker Martin
I've substituted with almond before. Worked great. It was more subtle than the vanilla, but I don't even know if that would be noticeable alongside chocolate. Good luck!

nmoira
Instant coffee powder or use half evaporated milk, half strong coffee for the liquid.
