life of fred pre-algebra

Recommended Posts

Is it needed? I thought I had read somewhere that they could go straight from decimals/percents to beginning algebra.

Thanks!

I did exactly that because that's what the website said at one point. Did not work for us. She spent last year spinning her wheels at algebra - two different books. Over the summer we used Khan Academy for pre-algebra and are doing algebra this year. Hopefully it will work this time!

I can't imagine that a child who knows:

  • addition facts
  • multiplication facts
  • long division
  • and what is taught in the Fred Fractions and Decimals books (I have used them)

would be even remotely ready for algebra.

I would use the Fred Prealgebra books at a minimum.

:iagree:

I have used all but the latest Pre-algebra w/Economics. Neither of my kids could have succeeded with Fred Algebra without something between Decimals and it. I know there are people with very mathy kids that have said they have done it, but it wouldn't have worked here.
