simka2
My favorite book as a child was Wise Child by Monica Furlong. I want a book like this, but the adult version. Does anyone know of any good historical fiction books centered around herbs and healing? Only on the Hive could I answer this random of a question!!! :D
abbeyej
Historical fiction or fantasy? Doesn't WC have elements of fantasy at least?
LibraryLover
Wise Child had a 'prequel'. :) Juniper. Have you read Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen, and The Peach Keeper, all by Sarah Addison Allen? They are not historical fiction, but I do think you will enjoy them much (if you have not already). :) www.amazon.com/Garden-Spells-Sarah-Addison-Allen/dp/0553805487 Edited August 3, 2011 by LibraryLover

Onceuponatime
Fiction, but not historical: Thornyhold by Mary Stewart. A little lighthearted romance, a little mysticism, village life, and herbs and healing. A fun read, nothing earth shattering.
stephanier.1765
The Hangman's Daughter isn't centered around herbs and healing but they do come in play quite a bit. This is one book that has really stuck with me because I enjoyed it so much.
abreakfromlife
I don't know if this really goes along with the herbs and healing or not...and it's probably not super historical fiction :tongue_smilie: but I thought of it as I read your post...I loved this book growing up, and it's all nature-y and stuff, and fairly realistic/time-periodwise, LOL. My grandma had the book, and I don't know who ended up with it when she died. I still wish I had gotten it, and it's been 17 years. Especially when I just saw the price on amazon. :001_huh: Holy cow. Anyway, it's A Girl of the Limberlost
Angel
Have you read Garden Spells, The Sugar Queen, and The Peach Keeper, all by Sarah Addison Allen? They are not historical fiction, but I do think you will enjoy them much (if you have not already). I have read Garden Spells and The Girl Who Chased the Moon. Lovely stories, though there is some s*x. I'll throw out the book Juliet by Anne Fortier. A blend of historical fiction and modern day. Doesn't have anything about herbs and healing but definitely a page turner. http://www.amazon.com/Juliet-Anne-Fortier/dp/0345516109/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1312393797&sr=8-
Little Blue House
How about Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks? There's some herbs and healing going on there...but it's not the main theme.
The Governess
Have you read the Outlander series? It is about a modern-day nurse who travels back in time and learns how to combine her modern medical knowledge with the medicinal practices of old. Some racy romance and a fun story. Set in the 1700s in Scotland and colonial America.
