DawnM
My poor puppy has a hurt foot. He is limping and/or hobbling on 3 legs to avoid weight on his hind leg. He keeps licking his foot so I assume something is stuck in there, but I keep looking at it and I don't see anything. Suggestions? Orthodox6
Can you very, very gently and cautiously look between the pads on the foot? Something tiny might have gotten trapped, or stuck into the foot, there. This is nuts, perhaps, but if people sometimes soak a limb in epsom salts to help with discomfort, would that be safe for a dog ??
TeenagerMom
Yes, check his pads & in between them, very, very gently. He may have something as simple as a sticker in it or have a cut. If you can't see anything, then it could be a sprain to his ankle.
Kebo
Could also be a torn toenail. They are quite common.
celticmom
Be very careful checking the toenails, if one is hurt even the most docile dog may try to bite. That is in fact on of the tests vets do to check the extent/severity of spinal damage in dogs.
ktgrok
Dogs break toes fairly commonly, tear toenails, and tear ligaments in their knee. All are painful, and he needs a visit to the vet. They will be able to tell what is wrong, and at least provide pain medication.
DawnM
Thanks. No torn nails that I can see. She keeps licking the TOP of her paw. I still don't see anything but she won't even get up now. Dawn
