Mama2two
So, does this mean you can use the history themed program for a third grade beginning writer?
Beth in SW WA
So, does this mean you can use the history themed program for a third grade beginning writer? It appears that is a possibility. My 3rd grader is taking the IEW US History lessons at CC next year. It will be challenging but this substitute text resource should make it more manageable -- I hope. :001_smile:
Heidi @ Mt Hope
Perfect! I was thinking of doing these, but I have a 4th grader who isn't strong in writing.

As long as the parents have reasonable expectations and are prepared to adjust the assignments here and there, it works fine.
DarlaS
I wonder if anything similar for vol. 2 might be on the horizon? I just recently bought that volume since we will be starting US History from the Civil War - present day quite soon--with my rising 6th and 9th graders (with writing experience, but little IEW experience). But now that I've seen it... :001_unsure: I own TWSS, and figure I can modify the assignments a bit (I probably would anyway...). I probably better go get on that e-mail list.
QuirkyKapers
Yeah!!!! I did Essentials last year and it was intense for my third grade son. I haven't looked at this but hopefully it will make it easier.

Beth in SW WA
I am re-thinking this plan. Not sure if working through the IEW US History lessons is the wisest use of time. Some of the history lessons are quite heady. I ordered WWW3. It looks like a nice transition to paragraph writing.

I just looked it over and chose the lessons I'd like my student to do. I am hopeful about the ease of the substitute text for younger students. What is WWW3? Beth in SW WA
I read through the Volume 1 teacher and student book plus the substitute source book this weekend. It looks like a fabulous program but too advanced for my dd for 3rd. Plus, I'm selfish and I want to keep my dds together to save me time. We'll still dabble in the IEW SWI-A materials that we have worked through. Adding the history element adds a twist that I don't think we're ready for...yet. :) WWW3 is Winning With Writing.
