razorbackmama
If I understand correctly, Spelling Power is geared toward 3rd grade and up. Is this correct? What could I use prior to that with a child, if I plan to move her to SP in 3rd?
StephanieZ
I have found that Explode the Code is a great way to jumpstart reading ability. Also, you can use Spelling Work Out as early as 1st grade.

Mrs Twain
I have used it starting in first grade. There is a section that explains how to modify the way it is used for younger students (below eight years old). It has worked great for us. JudoMom
I like Plaid Phonics as a basic spelling introduction. However, if your child is already reading/writing well, you can start Spelling Power before 3rd grade.

I was thinking about getting Plaid Phonics for her anyway for phonics work, just to cement that. She is reading very well, but she's just a natural reader. She writes very well too - LOL at her little public school enrichment class thing she got the "Writing With Exuberance" award because she loves to write and write.:D
Donna
I started Spelling Power with dd when she was 5yo. I would say once a child is reading well and able to write fairly well, they should be able to begin Spelling Power.
