non-fiction readers

My son, who is almost 7, needs more work/encouragement with reading. He does not have much interest in fiction but loves history and science. I am hoping that if I find some books he is interested in it will help with his reading.

I was looking at the Christian Liberty Press nature readers. Does anyone have any opinion on them? Is Book 1 a good level for an emergent reader?

Anyone have any suggestions for other non-fiction readers?

DK Readers

ETA: In light of the post below, I reread the original post. I too would find interesting books and magazines for him, based on his interests. My son also enjoyed thumbing through larger books such as Childcraft books (like "How Things Work") or various Usborne / DK type encyclopedias. You can read in chunks and get the general idea even if you miss a word, instead of having a whole narrative to plow through, which can be daunting. Topics like space, animals, the human body, or whatever else generally is interesting to him.

My daughters LOVED the CLP Readers! I had the whole set and they read them in less than a week. Very engaging reading! Another suggestion might be to browse Project Gutenberg for nature books. We're reading A Book of Natural History and it is super interesting!
