scrapbookbuzz
Sort of. Anyone else do anything like this? We were going through Sonlight's Cores K & 5 (A & F now I think). Anyway, we were in K & 5 and I found myself not liking it, sadly. I personally LOVE Sonlight because I can get everything I need all at once and have the lessons planned out for me. I need that and really do like it. My struggle was that Core 5 is actually a bit too advanced for my dd12 and Core K is way too easy for my ds6. Plus, I tried to find it "here and there" without actually ordering everything from Sonlight this year. :001_huh:I knew it could be done and I have had some success but it's taken some of the joy out of it for me. I really do enjoy and WANT a "Box Day." :D But I don't want to just chuck Core 5. I was so excited to start it and was hoping to start it last year and now I know why we didn't. However, I'm not sure I want to try it again as it's own Core/Spine. So what do you think I did? I said, "God, please help me!" Which, of course, He did. And here is the idea I believe God gave me: Go back to Cores 1 & 6, which we did enjoy, and finish up what we did not get to before. Continue along the history route and, when we get to studying the history of a country/culture that is in Core 5 and find we need/want more depth, use the Core 5 materials for that. Whew! Finally. :hurray: So that's what I plan on doing! :D Anyone else had a similar experience? :bigear:
freeindeed
I think that sounds like a great idea. I'm glad you found something that works for you.:)

This is what I WISH I had done with Core 5. I wish I had just gone on to 6 & mixed in the great 5 books as they fit with 6 & 7. I really just didn't like 5 as is, though we liked the lit & readers & some of the history. Hope it works out well for you!
Jyniffrec
This is exactly what we are doing. I like a lot of the books from Core 5 but I'm not interested so much in the overarching theme. I just got our Core 6 IG in the mail about a week ago and am looking forward to beginning it after 2 years of american history.
mom@shiloh
I think it's a great idea. I love the concept of Core 5, but I find my boys pulling history books off the shelf and getting absorbed in them. They miss the history, especially the battles! melmichigan
I own Core 5, but I bought it used since I knew we wouldn't use it as a Core. I just pulled the books as mentioned whenever we come across something that fit with our history rotation. It has worked great for us. :)
scrapbookbuzz
So far, so good with this plan, implemented today. It also puts us right at the time of Roman history that coincides with Jesus' time of Earth. There will certainly be interesting discussion this week!
