kathkath
Does anyone have a suggestion for a durable and lightweight hamper that young kids can get up and down the stairs on their own??

ChristusG
Yep, we have the hamper that the above person posted. Except we got ours from Wal Mart. My 6 year old has been carrying her laundry since she was 5. It works great! And it even folds up compactly and we take them on vacation with us. Tap
We used these when the kids were young. They are flexible so they can reach the handle on the other side easily. The handles can be pulled all the way together if there isn't anything blocking them. They are very light and aren't hard to carry.
Cinder
This I've found a version of this at Walmart that is sideways--that is, it's wider than tall so it opens on the rectangle side. Does that make sense? I can't find a link. Anyway, I think it's a tad easier to carry than the tall version if your kids are still shortish because the height of the basket and the length of the handles may make it longer overall than the child can comfortably maneuver. ETA: Here's a pic. Like the one in front. Edited March 13, 2011 by Cinder
Erica in OR
We use the same ones other posters have pictured. The youngest gets the shorter one and the two older kids share the tall one. They were on sale at Walgreen's. They've been handy, although I wonder how long they will hold up, as the frame is made out of what feels like flexible wire-type material. Great idea to take it along on vacation since it folds down flat - I never thought of that. Erica in OR
