Tullia
This does work. I can't remember who posted the tip here, but I started a jar a few days ago, and was able to cut enough for a salad this evening. My family thinks that green onions are necessary for salads--we go through a lot. I've also seen a comment at this blog that it's possible to do something similar with basil cuttings. The demo video with the shirtless host is cute even if you don't care for green onions. ;) http://www.urbanorganicgardener.com/2010/10/growing-green-onions-from-green-onions-in-your-kitchen/

Rosie_0801
I grow sunflower lettuce on the benchtop. I've tried regrowing carrot tops as this chap is talking about, but haven't had any luck on soil. I'll have to try plonking them in water.
