hmschooln
Hi. I'm looking for any reviews on Root Vue or anything similar. Any in particular you'd recommend or had any experience with would be super helpful. The dc love to plant and garden so I'd like them to get a chance to see what happens under the soil. Thanks.:001_smile:
kchara
We ordered THIS ONE from Creation Sensation just a few weeks ago, and we planted it yesterday. We're using Apologia Botany for science, and I'm sorta hoping to have some view by the time we get to roots, but I'm not holding my breath, either. ;-) In a perfect world, I would've planned better. Anyway, I had thought I saw one that used this blue/clear gel, similar to the clearish ant farms, but I can't find it now, so it's always possible that I made it up. ;-) Good luck finding one you like! mcconnellboys
We do have this, but honestly you can do the same thing by planting seeds along the edge of a big ol' glass jar and covering it with a black construction paper sleeve you can slide off.... Mallory
We also made our own with a couple pieces of plexiglass stuff, rubberbands to hold them together, clay to stand them up, and a plastic meat tray to set it in.
Kalmia
Here's a cheap way of doing this. Fold a couple of layers of paper towel, place them flat in a large ziplock bag. Place some seeds against the paper towel toward to the top of the baggie so you can see them through the plastic. Add water to the paper towel every day. Put in a sunny but not hot location. Watch 'em grow!
Kalmia
Oh, I can see from looking closer at my photo that we placed a line of staples part way down to keep the seeds and paper towels from falling to the bottom. Click on the thumbnail in my last post to see.
Wabi Sabi
If you have someplace like TJ Maxx or Marshall's you might check there. I bought one at TJ Maxx (although it's been a while) for about $5.
GoVanGogh
I have re-purposed an old gel ant farm (emptied and filled with potting soil or growing gel), though have also just used a glass jar like someone else mentioned. The trick with whatever you use is to not over water it.
hmschooln
Great ideas! :D Thanks to all of you. Can't wait to get this started.:001_smile:
Mallory
TOPS Radishes has lots of fun experiments. One where you see how the roots grow when they meet the dry edge of your paper towel, another where you put the seediling on the side of a baby jar upside down and see how the roots turn down and the leaves turn up.
