Ack! Is this meat still good?

Dh bought a roast from Costco on Jan 31. The roast says it was packed on Dec 29 at 1pm. There's no best before date.

 

Well, the roast is still sitting in my fridge :glare:. Dh normally cuts them up and we freeze portions for stir-fries and steaks later. Apparently not this time. :banghead:

 

Given that this is day 5 after the packaged on date, WWYD with this meat?

 

My kids are all still little and I don't want food poisoning. :(

I'd probably go by smell - you can definitely smell bad meat.

I would go by smell. Otherwise I have used meat several days after package date and have never had a problem. If you aren't going to cook with it today then just cut in smaller roasts and freeze it.

I'd smell it too, but I would also call the Costco meat department and ask about their date system.

I agree with the smellers. If it smells fine, it's fine. :) It's only, what, 5 days later? That's nothing. :)
