Dianne-TX
The recipe says to "cook on low all day". I got started a little late. Should I just cook on stovetop?
Tammyla
Many of my recipes say to cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4. So, there may still be time, but it depends on what you're cooking.
snickelfritz
Have you boiled them? A couple minutes will break the coating and let them cook quicker.
Dianne-TX
Yes, I boiled and rinsed them 3 times after soaking them overnight. It's supposed to help with the gassiness. We'll see. I think I'll go ahead and do it and check them later. I guess I can always put them on high later to finish cooking them faster before dinner. Hope it works or we'll be having sandwiches, but comforting beans and cornbread sounds so much better...
snickelfritz
I cooked kidney beans for chili last week in the time you are talking about. Not sure how various beans differ. I say go for it.
2_girls_mommy
I usually figure about 5 hrs on high. So you should be fine at 11:00, since you soaked overnight.

alpidarkomama
And after they're done, then what? Always looking for new ways with beans since we eat a lot of beans. I love crockpot "refried" pinto beans. :)
Pretty in Pink
My crock pot is ridiculous. It cooks dried beans, not pre-soaked, not pre-boiled, in 3 to 4 hours. Done. I think it's supposed to take 6 to 8 hours on low. Hope yours turn out well!

Pretty in Pink
We do cajun dishes like black or red beans and rice, use black beans in dirty rice or gumbo, sub black and/or pinto for the meat in lots of mexican dishes, stir cooked white beans into oven baked mac n cheese (before baking), 15 bean soup, white beans in bean with bacon soup, vegetarian chili with lentils, black beans, red beans, and barley, sub lentils and barley for beef in sloppy joes... There are lots of great recipes at a vegetarian blog called 101 Cookbooks.
