Jocelyne
Gearing up for a bit winter study in January. Parker requested some snow/winter themed read alouds of the chapter book variety. Wondering what some of your favorites are? Right now we have Mr. Popper's Penguins & The Long Winter in our stack. Would love 2-3 more (we read aloud a lot). Thanks! athomemom
Go here and maybe they'll list a few books that you can consider: http://shiningdawnbooks.com/available-units/snow-and-ice/
kokotg
I haven't read it since I was a kid, but the first thing that popped into my head was Carolyn Haywood's Snowbound with Betsy
Jocelyne
Thanks... I feel like there was a past thread on this very topic but I can't seem to find it. I know there was a book that took place in Europe during a war I think? More ideas would be awesome!
Farrar
It's a picture book, but you can't miss Owl Moon for a unit study with books about snow and winter. I'm thinking of a chapter book too... but it's not quite coming to me. I'll post later if I think of it.
CarrieF
Can't remember the author, but what about 'Snow Treasure?' I believe it is set during WWII?! Memory is NOT so good . . . sorry!:glare:
A home for their hearts
We are going to be doing a unit study on snow/winter in January too! I found a lot of great links and info at CandaceC (I think that's her username here) blog His Mercy is New HTH!

JessieC
I suggest "Black Star, Bright Dawn" by Scott O'Dell and the Gordon Korman "Everest" series. Jessica
motherdear
Rod and staff has a book titled Trapped by the Mountain Storm which is a sequel to All on a Mountain Day. This was a read aloud to my son at a young age and a read alone when he got older. You can easily sneak some science into your son school vacation with this book. He'll learn much about animal life in nature. We had fun with it!
