Mom-ninja.
I made cookie dough yesterday. The recipe said to leave it in the fridge overnight. I did. I took it out a few hours ago. It is very hard and crumbles. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to roll it out. It just crumbles until tiny bits. Is there a way to save it? I don't want to waste it. That's like throwing money into the garbage.
rwjx2khsmj
Add a wee bit of milk and see if that helps.
Mrs Mungo
Just let the butter warm up a little and it should be fine.

I'm trying to wait for it to warm up but the house is so cold that the dough is remaining hard.
mysticamethyst
Is it sugar cookie dough? Do the crumbs come back together when squeezed? I am not a sugar cookie maker so I am not sure but would say as long as it comes back together it's good. Sorry I'm not much help have never had good luck with sugar cookies. Mrs Mungo
Yes, I did. I'm trying to wait for it to warm up but the house is so cold that the dough is remaining hard. Try rubbing your hands over it.
Sun
Did you get it to work? It was probably the cold butter; it's impossible to roll most dough that's been refrigerated overnight. To soften it more quickly, you can cut the dough into slices and spread them out to warm.
Mom-ninja.
I gave up for today. Will try again tomorrow.
Sun
Tomorrow you might try cutting it into small slices, letting them soften briefly, and then kneading gently with your hands for a moment. If they don't soften, just knead in a dab of milk like the person with the unpronounceable user name said!
joannqn
My sugar cookie dough was the same way. I kind of kneaded it a bit with my hands until it was soft enough to start rolling it.
Mom-ninja.
I was able to save the dough. Cookies are now in the oven. My kids thank you
