Pam Wilhelm
What would you use instead of TCOO and Our Island Story?
Heidi
http://www.milestonesacademy.com/Site/Family_History_Rotation_(Elementary_Years).html Take a look at Milestone's history idea and see if you like it better. It is a modified version of AO. I'm considering it. Although I kind of like TCoO.. :leaving:

Kfamily
We like and enjoy Our Island Story (but edit as needed) but I've heard that Britannia by Geraldine McCaughrean is good. I've replaced This Country of Ours for my younger dd with the Core Knowledge series. We are reading the American history section from the book and adding a lot of living books to this base. Some living books we are adding: Mr. Revere and I Ben and Me Paul Revere's Ride Thomas Jefferson A Picture Book Biography Abe Lincoln Go Free or Die A Story About Harriet Tubman The Declaration of Independence (A New True Book) A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Papillon Mom
I second milestones academy. It is written for LDS families but we love it and we're atheists! She has a fantastic bookstore and great videos about timelines, montessori, notebooks. She's also super helpful if you have a question. Take Care, Amanda
stripe
I've heard that Britannia by Geraldine McCaughrean is good. I would just add that the description of it as being 100 stories is accurate. It is like episodes from history rather than one whole. This makes a difference to some people, so I mention it here....
suzf242
Just wondering what you don't like about OIS and TCOO? (We have been reading both and enjoying them; I'm just wondering if I am missing something.) Thanks, Suzanne
Pam Wilhelm
I don't know.... I've read them online a bit (and find them boring, but that's just me). I was also reading other threads about them on this forum....and it gives me pause. I guess I'm just a bit wishy-washy. :D
